The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) is excited to announce the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Christina Tomaso, MS, CAE.
Christina Tomaso is a seasoned executive with nearly three decades of experience in strategic leadership, marketing, operations and financial management across diverse industries, including healthcare, education, consulting, and nonprofit organizations. She previously served as Chief Operating Officer of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Christina excels in aligning organizational goals with operational excellence, fostering collaborative partnerships, and driving transformative initiatives that enhance member engagement, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability. Her leadership style is rooted in a commitment to building relationships, innovation, inclusivity and strategic vision. These attributes made her the obvious selection to serve as the first Chief Executive Officer of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
At AOSSM, Christina led a multidisciplinary professional team and oversaw a $10 million operating budget. Her oversight included ensuring compliance with best practices and regulations while achieving organizational objectives. Christina successfully launched membership growth campaigns, modernized infrastructure with state-of-the-art systems, and cultivated global partnerships that extend the Society’s impact. Her strategic counsel to the Board of Directors and volunteer leadership at AOSSM drove consensus on complex issues and fostered pathways to leadership for Society members.
Prior to AOSSM, Christina served as Executive Director of Turnaround Operations at the Archdiocese of Chicago, where she worked as part of an elite team that implemented sustainable financial and operational strategies for schools and parishes in underserved communities. Her ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and create measurable action plans led to significantly improved outcomes. In leadership roles at HBR Consulting and NorthShore University HealthSystem, Christina further honed her expertise in talent management, strategic marketing, and financial oversight, achieving measurable growth and operational improvements.
Earlier in her career, Christina held various executive roles at SmithBucklin Corporation, where she managed multiple healthcare associations, secured sponsorships, oversaw marketing and communications efforts, and participated in the oversight of credentialing programs.
With a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Master of Science in Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, complemented by certifications such as the Certified Association Executive (CAE) and advanced leadership development programs, Christina brings a well-rounded and dynamic approach to executive leadership. She thrives in mission-driven environments where innovation, strategic planning, and collaborative leadership converge to drive sustainable success.
In her free time, Christina enjoys attending as many live music events as possible, reading, and spending time and traveling the world with her husband and their teenage son. Please join us in welcoming Christina to her new position with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
